While you can’t avoid all air conditioner troubles, there are some repairs that you can stay ahead of with a little forethought and planning. In fact, it is actually quite easy to stay ahead of air conditioner repairs when you know what to do.

When you do need air conditioning repair in Katy, TX, our team is always here to help. No matter how big or small your AC repair need is, our team can handle it. But we can also help you stay ahead of AC problems, and you can keep reading to learn more about how.

Annual Maintenance

One of the best ways to care for your air conditioner is by investing in expert care. Ideally, you want our team to inspect your air conditioner once per year from top to bottom. Even if your air conditioner is not showing signs of any problems, our expert eyes can see things that might lead to problems down the road. We can tighten screws and lubricate bearings so that major repairs are never even on the horizon. We catch problems before they ever begin.

Homeowner Maintenance

There are also steps as a homeowner that you can take to prevent repairs. After all, the better that you take care of your air conditioner, all along, the longer it will last and the better it will operate. You have 4 key responsibilities to meet:

  1. Air filter – Change the air filter on time each month. This helps your air conditioner in several ways. It keeps dust and dirt from getting into the system, but it also ensures that you always have a strong source of airflow coming into the system.
  2. Condensate drain – It’s important for you to clean out the condensate drain line once per month when you change the air filter. It’s as simple as opening your indoor AC cabinet and identifying the pipe with a screw-on cap. Take the cap off and pour about 1/2 cup of vinegar into the pipe, returning the cap to its original position after. This is a great way to prevent the drain line from getting clogged.
  3. Outdoor unit – You also want to remember to pay attention to your outdoor unit. Keep it free from debris and hose the coils off gently when they get dirty. This helps to ensure that airflow coming out of your air conditioner has a clear path. This way, heat and humidity don’t get trapped inside your home.
  4. Pay attention – Even with the best care, things still go wrong. The trick is paying attention to warning signs and calling our team sooner rather than later. If you begin to notice unusual noises or smells coming from your air conditioner, that’s a sign of impending problems. Give us a call to check it out so that your air conditioner does not break down completely.

Lighten the Load on Your AC

You can also take steps to ensure that cold air from your air conditioner actually stays inside your house. Make sure you have adequate insulation in your attic and that all of your windows and doors are sealed. I’m particularly hot days, you can employ the use of window coverings like blinds or curtains to block out some of the outside heat.
