What Goes Wrong With a Clogged Condensate Drain in an AC

Monday, July 15th, 2019

water-dropletsWhat sort of sounds do you hear coming from your air conditioning system? You expect to hear the whir of the fans and the hum of the compressor when it turns on. But what about the dripping of water? Yes, this is one of the routine noises you can expect to hear coming from your AC as it works on a hot day. It’s the condensate moisture in the system dripping down into a pan, where it is then pumped down a drain and out of the house.

Your AC doesn’t use water to cool down air, but water is a product of how it cools the air. When the cold refrigerant in the evaporator coils and fins evaporates, it draws heat out of the air as well as moisture. The moisture collects along the coil and a pan below catches it when it falls. The condensate drain and line removes the water—unless the drain is clogged up.

Ductless cooling. When you read that term, does your mind first go to a window AC unit, or maybe one of those portable air conditioners that can attach to windows to provide cooling for a room? Regular Maintenance and the Lifespan of Your AC System

Monday, April 8th, 2019

air-conditioning-manometer-pressure-refrigerantWe are big believers in routine maintenance inspections and tune-ups for air conditioning systems. Any HVAC company should promote regular maintenance services because every technician with training knows how advantageous they are. But here in Katy, TX, we’re especially aware of how much a hard-working air conditioner needs maintenance. An AC in our hot weather takes on a heavy work load each year.

We’re focusing on a specific benefit of routine maintenance in this post, which is what it does for an air conditioner’s lifespan.

“No Cool” From an AC Is No Fun: How to Avoid It

Monday, March 25th, 2019

man-in-front-of-fan-on-a-hot-dayWhen HVAC experts talk about the worst type of problems an air conditioning system can run into, they use the phrase “no cool”—an air conditioning system that isn’t cooling a house. The whole AC may have shut down and no air at all is coming from the vents. Or air is coming from the vents but it’s not cool.

In southern Texas, this isn’t a situation anyone wants to be in during one of our (many) hot days. A big part of our job at AC Comfort is rescuing homes in hot weather with air conditioning repair in Katy, TX. We’re always glad to help our customers, but we also want them to avoid trouble with a broken AC in the first place. There’s no way to stop all AC “no cool” emergencies, but you can prevent the majority of them with some planning and a bit of help from us.

March Is a Great Time for AC Maintenance

Monday, February 25th, 2019

air-conditioner-on-leavesIn some parts of the country, air conditioners go on long vacations during the winter. There are distinct seasons for air conditioning, and AC owners usually prepare their cooling systems for the summer weather with a professional spring tune-up. Or at least they should; any quality HVAC contractor recommends it and offers a regular maintenance program to make it easier for customers.

Here in Texas, air conditioning doesn’t have a “season.” It gets used more often at some points of the year, less in others—but it’s necessary almost every month. When is the best time to schedule regular maintenance? It’s not much different from any other place: spring is the ideal time, and you might as well take advantage of March to call an HVAC contractor in Houston, TX to schedule your annual AC maintenance.
